From Edward Sabine

Dear Tyndall—

Lord Wrottesley made so short a stay in London about the time when we were to have had a meeting of the Gov. Grant Come1: that he was compelled to defer its meeting till January, (towards the middle) when he will be in town again. I fear this will delay Mr. Gore’s supply of means. With the recommendations you name his application, I should think, could scarcely fail of success.

I received this morning the enclosed2 from Hansteen3 of Christiania.4 I am in some difficulty how to reply to it—Does Faraday lecture now in the mornings in the laboratory as formerly? If so, my reply would be that the course commences (when?) and terminates (when?)—and that subscription to the course is (what?)—and further that Mr. Hansteen’s introduction could ensure his being formally known to Mr. Faraday and Anderson. —But I could say no more—Can you enable me to reply as above? or can you suggest anything better?

Sincerely yours | Edward Sabine | Dec. 15. 57
