2nd. June 1858
My dear Hooker,
Dr. Seemann1 has been kind enough to send me that Diploma.2 Will you have the goodness to say to me what sum you sent to Breslau3 on the receipt of yours—It is left to my generosity to pay certain fees; how much ought I to pay? Of course the paying of these fees is a totally different thing from paying for the distinction. Do instruct me like a good fellow. I had written to Dr. Seemann4 but will detain the note until I hear from you.
Ever yours | John Tyndall
Kew JDH, vol. 4, 1260
Dr. Seemann: Berthold Seemann, see letter 1427, n. 2.
Diploma: presumably Tyndall’s certificate of membership in the Leopoldina. See letters 1365 and 1427.
Breslau: the Leopoldina was administered at Breslau during the later part of Christian Nees von Esenbeck’s (1776–1858) tenure as president from 1818–58 (CDSB, ADB).
I had written to Dr. Seemann: letter missing.
