To Auguste de la Rive1

My dear Sir

Your note2 reached me last night at Chamouni:3 and about an hour ago I reached Geneva.4 It is late and I am loth to intrude upon you, otherwise I would call. I must start tomorrow morning very early for London, to attend an examination of military candidates.5 Had I been aware of your being at home I might have arranged to come a day earlier and spent that day in Geneva. But this I am sorry to say is now impossible.

Ever Yours | John Tyndall | Hotel de la Couronne6 | Thursday 7 oC. P.M.
