To George Gabriel Stokes   March 23rd, 1859

March 23rd, 1859

My dear Sir

I return you Mr. Gassiot’s1 paper on Electrical Discharges.2

The paper gives evidence of great care, great skill, and, above all great labour, in the devoting & carrying out of the experiments.

It contains a great number of valuable facts which in my opinion must have an important bearing upon the final solution of the question: many of them are of a highly suggestive character.

On this account I would recommend the paper for publication in the Philosophical Transactions.

I have communicated to Mr. Gassiot my belief3 that the paper might be condensed with advantage, and he expresses his entire willingness to conform to this suggestion should the decision of the committee regarding it be favourable to its publication

I am dear Sir │ Yours very faithfully │ John Tyndall
