I have received: the letter with the diplomas is missing.

Ehren Mitgliede: Honorary Member.

Marburg Philosophical Society: Both Tyndall and Hirst had close connections to Marburg, as they obtained their PhD at the University of Marburg.

The enclosed is from Schell: a missing note from Schell. Hirst recorded receipt of Schell’s note through Tyndall’s letter in his journal for 24 July, noting that it informed him and Tyndall about their election as honorary members of the Marburg Philosophical Society (Hirst Journal, RI MS JT/2/32c/1495). See also letter 1630, n. 4.
