Queenwood | near Stockbridge | Hants | Sunday.
My dear Mr Murray,
I left the introductory portion of my manuscript2 at the Institution3 with directions to have it sent to you. Would you kindly have it put in type for me—I want to ask a friend4 how it reads—When you are done with it I shall have more ready for you.
I intend to give a sketch of each of my expeditions making use of the sketch to elucidate the minor scientific points of the journey – and afterwards to deal with the question of glaciers relieved from all lumber.
Ever yours | John Tyndall

National Library of Scotland, John Murray Archive, Ms. 41214
This letter was likely sent in March 1860, as Tyndall was near to submitting the full draft of Glaciers of the Alps. It may be that the friend (n. 4) was Juliet Pollock; see letters 1642 and 1684. It is also possible that it was Huxley, who ‘urged him’ to finish, see letter 1695.
my manuscript: refers to Glaciers of the Alps, see also letter 1595, n. 4.
Institution: the RI.
a friend: not identified, but may have been Juliet Pollock or Huxley, see n. 1.
Verso included the note ‘1859 Tyndall J n.d.’
