To George Gabriel Stokes   26th May 18601

26th May 1860

My dear Sir,

I consider the paper of Messrs Matthiessen & Holzmann a very important one, and most heartily recommend it for publication in the Philosophical Transactions.2

Yours very since[rel]y | John Tyndall3

RS RR/4/174

[George Gabriel Stokes]: the recipient is assumed to be Stokes as the letter concerns the referee process for the physical section of the Phil. Trans..

and most heartily recommend it for publication in the Philosophical Transactions: the paper was published as A. Matthiessen and M. Holzmann, ‘On the Effect of the presence of Metals and Metalloids upon the Electric Conducting Power of Pure Copper’, Phil. Trans., 150 (1860), pp. 85–92.

At the end of the letter a note which appears to be in Stokes’s handwriting was added: ‘1860 | Matthiessen | & Holzmann | Tyndall’.
