To Nevil Story-Maskelyne   15th Nov. 1861

15th Nov. 1861.

My dear Maskelyne,

Is there any possibility of procuring a largish diamond1 for a simple experiment on radiant heat. The ray used would no more injure it than a ray of light; and the point is of considerable theoretic importance.

I wrote in despair to the Trustees2 yesterday asking for some salt. Never was mortal baffled & perplexed as I have been. My work is tremendously difficult and if I am not helped it will conquer me.

Yours ever | John Tyndall
