My dear Maskelyne
I have received the reply of the Trustees1 to my application,2 and have been directed to apply to you. What I require for my researches are two plates of salt three inches in diameter and an inch thick. I would engage if required to do so, and if they are not used out in obtaining results ten million times their value, to return the said plates to the British Museum, to be applied to the future advancement of science as the Trustees shall deem desirable.
Yours very truly | John Tyndall
