DEAR TYNDALL,
It is hardly within my authority to accept resignations of officers of the Alpine Club,2 but I will lay your letter3 before the Committee at their next meeting, which will not, however, take place for the next two or three weeks. I need hardly say that I shall do this with very great regret, on more grounds than one, and it would afford me great pleasure to hear that a reconsideration of your determination had relieved me from this most unpleasant duty.
I am, | Sincerely yours, | A.P. WHATELY
