Royal Institution of Great Britain | 15th April 1862
Dear Sir John.
Your letter1 which I received yesterday was a source of very great gratification to me. Indeed you are one of the chosen few whose approval I think it well worth the labour of a life to obtain.
I shall prize your gift of salt exceedingly and shall try to turn it to good account.
I have directed Longman to send you a little book of mine2 which he is just now publishing. It is totally unscientific but I do not scruple to send it to you whose mind wanders so far beyond the fringes of formal science
Believe me | Most truly yours | John Tyndall
I am on the point of running down to the coast of Devon to get up fibre for my after Easter work
