20th May
My dear Clausius
Very many thanks for your last note,2 for your portrait,3 which now stands close to that of Faraday, and also for the pamphlet by Mayer4 which you have been kind enough to send me.
I send you the image of my pale face in return.
I had thought of making a request of you but I am almost ashamed to do it. The request is that you would be good enough to cast your eye over the proof sheets of my lectures before they go to press. Your remarks would be of great value to me, but as I have stated, I am quite ashamed to ask you to incur so much labour. The book will not be ready until the autumn.5 At present I am sorry to say my head is very weary and almost unfit for work.
Yours ever | John Tyndall | Kind regards to your wife. |
All your papers are sure to appear in the Phil. Mag.6 They are most valuable to English readers
