To Juliet Pollock   24th. July1

24th. July

My dear Mrs. Pollock.

I send you just one line to say that after dawdling about for the last fortnight I find my strength almost wholly restored. I reached Zermatt today & tomorrow I intend to cross the frozen boundary of Italy & Switzerland—What I shall do afterwards I know not. The Matterhorn2 is at hand; but I shrink from augmenting the excitement that already exists regarding it.

I wrote a letter to Mr Faraday & asked him to send it to three of my friends in London.3—one of whom is your husband—It will inform you of an accident4 which threatened to be very serious—Huxley takes the letter home with him & he will reach London on the 27th.5
