To Thomas Archer Hirst   Tuesday | April 5th. 1864

Tuesday | April 5th 1864.

My dear Tom

I have been to Dr. Bence Jones to talk to him about you: he blames you much for not returning1 to London when you noticed things at Chester,2 and he now advises you to return as soon as you can & he will visit you & put you right.

I wrote to you this morning,3 but I suppose both letters will reach you at the same time. This then is No. 2.

Yours affectionately | John Tyndall

RI MS JT/1/T/658

not returning: Hirst was ill during his trip to Ireland (see letter 2080, n. 2, and letter 2083, in which Tyndall wrote that Hirst’s illness was related to the kidneys).

Chester: a city in Cheshire, England, on the River Dee close to the border with Wales.

I wrote to you this morning: letter 2083.
