Royal Institution of Great Britain | Monday
My dear Stokes,
All that you suggest2 shall be done.
The lengths of the chambers are recorded in the tables from which they are extracted. If you think it would improve the paper3 to restate them that shall also be done.
It is the only paper that I have ever had wholly done by my assistants. I have severely checked them, but still I had not the same mastery over it as if I had made the experiments myself.
Almost all the alterations are due to one simple cause—namely the calibration value of the total heat was somewhat incorrect, and this ran through all the reckoning.
Yours very truly | John Tyndall

[30 May 1864]: the date is given by relation to letter 2099, which is Stokes’ reply of Tuesday, 31 May 1864. This letter, written on a Monday, would then be 30 May 1864.
All that you suggest: letter missing.
the paper: this is a reference to J. Tyndall, ‘The Bakerian Lecture.—Contributions to Molecular Physics.—Being the Fifth Memoir of Researches on Radiant Heat’, Phil. Trans., 154 (1864), pp. 327–68; this had been received by Stokes on 17 March. See also letters 2099, 2112, 2114, 2115, 2117, 2119, and 2136.
