To William Frederick Pollock   17th Oct. 1864.

London | 17th Oct. 1864.

My dear Pollock,

I shall start by the 10 o’clock train on Wednesday morning and hope to reach Freshwater1 sometime during the afternoon.

You will I trust give me an early breakfast on Friday so as to enable me to reach London by 2.35.

Let me tell you that you have generated a severe struggle between my head and heart;2 and though heart has carried it head will be grim until I get to my work again.

Yours ever | John Tyndall.

Freshwater: a town at the western end of the Isle of Wight where the Pollock’s were renting Easton Farm.

you have generated a severe struggle between my head and heart: a letter from Pollock, replying to Tyndall’s of 13 October and presumably convincing Tyndall to come visit them, is missing.
