To John Herschel   18th Nov. 1864

Royal Institution of Great Britain | 18th Nov. 1864

My dear Sir John

We sadly need a good weekly scientific organ, and the ‘Reader’1 which has just become purchased from its present proprietors promises to satisfy this want.

It is exceedingly well supported.

Would you object to adding your name to the list of shareholders. You may do so without any risk simply by capitalizing your contributions.

I myself have taken a single £100 share, but others (Huxley, for example) take no shares but are shareholders in virtue of their contributions.

There never was a better opportunity for establishing a healthy weekly scientific organ.

Believe me | Yours very truly | John Tyndall
