Tönning d 30ten Januar 1843.

LIeber Ferdinand.

Deine Dich liebende Schwester

Clara Müller.

Tönning, 30 January 1843.

Dear Ferdinand,

I have not written to you before, but now I do want to make the attempt. We have all enjoyed Christmas very much, we all received so many presents that we almost forgot everything else over them. Georg got a game-bag with 5 pockets. Marie and I each received an overcoat and a net and a pretty doll. Heinrich got a colourful harlequin. Ferdinand a crossbow and a chess game. Ernst got a draught board. Little Louise2 is so sweet now, she can already walk all by herself alone, and she can already say a few words. Dear Ferdinand, have you already heard that Uncle has won the secretaire? 3 Also Uncle has now got the Ferry for the rest of his life.

Many regards from us all,

Your loving sister

Clara Müller.

Probably in a sharpshooting contest. In a letter to Clara Wehl and Bertha Doughty and their husbands, 26 February 1857 (M57-02-26 in this edition), Johann E. F. Mertens wrote of another piece of furniture he won in such a shooting contest.
