Lieber Müller!

Ich beeile mich Sie zu benachrichtigen das bereits am 7ten dieses Monats das Erste Heft von Bischoffs Handbuch der Therminologie erschienen und wie mir von Herold versichert es nicht sehr lang dauert das dass Werk vollständig würde in dem es bereits schon einmal vollständig da ist und nun nur ein zweites Abonnement begonnen, sollte also Herr Becker nicht die heftweise Lieferung haben wollen so kann er es bei jedem ordentlichen. Buchhändler im Exemplar vom ersten Abonnement erhalten jedoch weiss ich nicht ob es alsdann ihm nicht für den Ladenpreis angerechnet wird? —

Viele Variationen fallen in dem geräuschvollen Hamburg nicht vor besonders führe ich ein sehr solides Leben — (wie gewöhnlich) selbst ist sogar eine merklich. Geschäfts Stille eingetreten, so das man nicht mal Syphilis mehr practisch zu kennen gelegenheit hat welches doch sonst nichts seltenes hier ist, welche Soliditat;?.

Galanthus nivalis, Crocus vernus, Helleborus hiemalis blühen bereits schon im Freien im Botanischen Garten, und verkünden das Frühjahr und ladet uns ein zu Wanderungen im grossen Garten der Natur, auch für Sie wird es einen angenehmen und heiss ersehnter Augenblick sein in dem Sie wohl ausgerüstet Mit Stock und G[e]rät Ihre Fussthuren nach Süderholz, Holacker Olderup etc. beginnen auch ich denke einige Excursionen mit den Maykäfersammlern Hamburg's zu unternehmen und verspreche Ihnen hinters einige nicht in Husum's Flora vorkommende Pflanzen z Brief zu übersenden als Eriophorum alpinum ein kleines niedliches Gewächs etc etc.

Indem ich Sie bitte Herrn Becker sen. et jun nebst Familie sowie Sattler, Schmidt, (Fries u Grossmutter durch Schmidt oder Sattler oder sonst jemand grüssen zu lassen) [...]² etc. etc. sowie unbekannter weise meinen Nachfolger Hr Meyer so wie noch alle übrigen hier mit Stillschweigen übergangenen Bekannten empfehle ich mich für diesmal Ihnen bestens und habe das Vergnügen zu zeichnen kurtz und erbaulich

Dear Müller,

I hasten to notify you, that the first part of Bischoff's Handbuch der Therminologie has already been published on the 7th of this month and, as Herold assures me, it will not be very long before the work will be complete, as it was already published complete once, and only a second edition has been started now.³ If therefore Mr Becker does not want delivery part by part, he could get a volume of the first edition from any good book dealer, but I do not know, if he would not have to pay the full shop price in that case.

Nothing much is happening in noisy Hamburg. I lead a very solid life by myself (as usual). A marked silence has fallen on society, so that one can't even find opportunity to gain practical experience with syphilis any more, which generally is not very rare here. What propriety!

Galanthus nivalis, Crocus vernus, Helleborus hyemalis are already flowering in the open in the Botanic Gardens and herald spring, and invite us to excursions in the great garden of nature. For you, too, it will be a pleasant and ardently yearned for moment, when you set off, well equipped with walking stick and equipment to begin your walking tours to Süderholz, Holacker, Olderup etc. I am also considering whether to make a few excursions with the Hamburg cockchafer collectors and promise to send you some plants, which do not occur in Husum's flora, such as Eriophorum alpinum, a pretty little plant, etc. etc.

While I beg you to convey my regards to Mr Becker senior and junior and family, as well as to Sattler, Schmidt (my greetings to be passed on by Schmidt⁴ or Sattler or someone else to Fries and grandmother) [...]⁵ etc. etc., also to my successor Mr Meyer, whose acquaintance I have not made, as well as to all my other acquaintances, here passed over in silence, I say farewell for now and have the pleasure to sign in brief and with devotion,
