Mein lieber Ferdinand!

Ich bin nicht im stande gewesen. mehr an Zettel als eingeschlossen 20 RbThr aufzutreiben. schreibe mir gleich wieder wie viel Geld ich Dir mit Clara nach Rendsburg senden soll. die wir zum Weihnachtsfest nach Berta zum Besuch senden wollen. und solltest du. es sey wenn es sey mir um Geld schreiben. so schreibe mir ja immer wie viel Du haben willst. ich kann so was ja nicht genau wissen. Hast Du Gelegenheit so kannst Du auch immer auf mich ziehn [...]! So soll alles wohl prompt im Gleise kommen. Wir alle sind soweit wohl auf bis auf Ferdinand der es so bedeutend auf den Augen hat der er in der Abendstunde fast nicht schreiben kann. Wir haben heute den Artzt gefragt. der es für Erkältung helt. indes ist es schon lange gewesen. wir hoffen das es keine Ernstliche folgen haben wird. Lieb Clara wollen wir über Husum pW² nach R senden u Du schreibst mir des Geldes wegen vorher. Deine Sache ist noch nicht weiter. es wird indes mit den Jahreswechsel wohl den endlichen Schluss erreichen. Lebe wohl lieber Ferdinand. nutze Deine Zeit und halte Dich stets den bessern Menschen zu. so wird auch alles wohl [...]³ sich freundlich gestalten.

My dear Ferdinand,

I was unable to raise more in notes than the enclosed 20 Reichstaler Courant. Reply at once, how much money I should send to you via Clara to Rendsburg. We want to send her there to visit Bertha over Christmas. And should you write to me for money at any time, always write how much you want, I cannot know that so exactly. If you have the opportunity, you can always draw on my account, and then everything will run smoothly. On the whole we are all well except for Ferdinand,⁵ who has bad trouble with his eyes and can hardly write any more at night time. We have asked the doctor, who thinks it is a cold. But it has been like this for a long time. Let us hope, that it will not have any serious consequences. We want to send dear Clara by waggon via Husum to Rendsburg, and you must write about the money before then. Your affairs have not progressed any further, but it should all be finalized at long last with the end of the year.

Farewell, dear Ferdinand, use your time well and always keep to the better people, then everything will go well and happily for you.
