Notwithstanding the almost hopeless state, in which you found my horse, I feel hardly entitled to grant its being shot, still I fully autorize you to do so if you think this step lawful and if you have done under similar circumstances so before.

MS found with a specimen of Schizophyllum commune collected by M in Gippsland, n.d. (MEL number not recorded when letter placed in the Library at an unknown date). It appears to be part of a draft of a letter but it is not known whether a fair copy was ever sent.
