Sir,

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 13th instant applying for the situation of Botanist to the Exploring Expedition about to proceed to Northern Australia1

In reply I beg to inform you that his Excellency the Governor General has been pleased to approve of your appointment as Botanist to the N. A. Expedition.

With reference to the Salary attached. As the subject is still under consideration, I am only at present authorized to state that it will be the same as that of the other Scientific Officers who have been appointed in England. But on the final arrangement of the Salaries will inform you of the exact amount and also of the probable time when you will be required to join the Expedition in Sydney, should you accept the appointment.
