From Augustus Gregory   16 June 1855

To F. Mueller Esqre. Melbourne.

6 Hunter Street

Sydney 16th June 1855

Sir. —

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 10th instant,1 stating that you had ascertained that you could obtain leave of absense from the Government of Victoria, for the purpose of accompanying the North Australian Expedition as Botanist.

Although from the tenor of your two previous letters2 I was under the impression that you would not follow up your application for this appointment, and was therefore about to adopt other arrangements, yet as the obstacles which you feared would intervene, have been obviated, I shall hold the appointment of Botanist open for you on your arrival in Sydney, which should not be later than the 10th July as the Expedition is preparing to leave Sydney on the 15th should any delay occur I will inform you of it.

With reference to the Salary attached to the appointment, I beg to refer to my letter of the 12th instant.3

The final disposal of the Botanical Collection will of course depend on the instructions of Her Majesty's Government, but I shall be ready to forward your views as far as is in my power.

As I am preparing the equipment of the party, I have to request you to furnish me, at your earliest convenience, with a list of such materials as you deem requisite for your particular department.

I have the honor &c

A. C. Gregory
