Sir,
Having laid before His Excellency the Governor General, your communication of the 6th1 relative to your proceeding to England for the purpose of completing the descriptive notes on the Botanical collection of the North Australian Expedition, I have the honor to transmit a copy of a letter in reply which I have received from the Colonial Secretary, and in which His Excellency sanctions your proceeding to Melbourne on leave of absence to make the arrangements which would thereby become necessary with reference to your situation as Government Botanist in the Colony of Victoria.
