Sydney im botanischen Garten,
am 20 Mai 1857.
Hochgeehrter Herr Professor
Gesellschaft in Wien vorzulegen.
ergebensten
Ferd. Mueller
Herrn Prof. Dr Ed. Fenzl

Sydney Botanic Garden,

Esteemed Professor,
I take the liberty to send to you today the maps2 recently published here on the exploring expedition of Mr Gregory in tropical Australia,3 with the request that you present them to the recently founded geographical Society in Vienna.4
It had been my intention to enclose a few notes on the distribution of northern Australian plants along our expedition route. Preparing for my return to Melbourne, where I have to resume my former office, I lacked the spare time to add lengthy notes, so that I had to restrict myself to just a few remarks.5
Permit me, dear Professor, to assure you of my respect.
Your devoted
Ferd. Mueller.
Professor Dr Ed. Fenzl
