To Augustus Gregory   9 July 1857

Argus Hotel Melbourne,

9. July 1857.

My dear Mr Gregory.

Some difference in opinion has arisen between some of my scientific friends as to the origin of the drawings seen by Sir George Gray on the N. W. coast. As you have read the work of Gray,1 please would you favor me with your opinion, whether these are to be regarded as the work of the natives or as the work of an other race.

I have in accordance with your request, instantly prepared the triplicate of my report,2 which I hope arrived in due time.

With my sincere wishes for your welfare, I remain,

dear Sir, your obed. servant

Ferd Mueller
