To William Hooker   21 July 1857

Melbourne bot. Garden

21. July 1857

My dear Sir William

With these lines I beg to introduce to you a particular friend of mine Mr P. Ramel, a gentleman, who always evinced a great taste for horticulture and one of the frequent visitors of this establishment.

Mr Ramel is kind enough to take charge of small parcel of specimens destined for Kew.

I have to acknowledge the reciept of your very kind letter gratulating to the safe return from our enterprise.1

I had a very kind note from Sir Henry Barkly yesterday2 and his Excellency will I believe communicate to you with the mail and also forward a set of botanical manuscript with the despatch bag, which was not ready at Mr Ramels leaving and which to finish I shall be obliged to work all night.

With expression of my veneration to you, I remain,

my dear Sir William,

your most attached

servant

Ferd. Mueller
