To Charles MacMahon1    22 October 1857

Melbourne bot. Garden

22. Oct. 1857

My dear Capt. Mac. Mahon

Suffering from an attack of bronchitis I have been unable to attend this after noon at the bot. Garden, and to arrange for to morrows proceedings. But I shall be happy to send a competent gardener over to you after tomorrow early according to your request. Unfortunately hardly any shrubs seeds are left at this advanced season; but I shall gladly send what we have and after the gardeners return be able to judge what else you may require.

I hope you will allow us to keep the benches a little longer for the use of ladies and gentlemen attracted by the weekly military music.

Most obediently

yours

Ferd. Mueller.

Capt MacMahon

Chief Commissioner of Police
