Sir,

I have the honor to acquaint you that at a General Meeting of the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land, held on 9th instant, you were duly elected a Member of the Society.

Herewith I furnish you with a copy of the Rules, and I have to call your attention to XII and XIII which require payment of the Annual Contribution, within one month "after notification of the Election has been made."

The name of the Society was changed to Royal Society of Tasmania in 1855. It would appear that the Society had not yet obtained a new supply of letterhead paper.
