Heating apparatus was installed at the conservatory in the Botanic Gardens between August and November 1858 by the contractor William Savage for £480. Savage did some additional work on the apparatus in November for £22, and in January 1859 for £1.6.4 (Unit 8, pp. 198-9; Unit 9, p. 163, VPRS 69, PROV).
