Repairs and additions to the value of £324.10.0 were undertaken in the Gardens in 1858 including piping and fixing the Government Botanist's cottage (George Rickard, £29), removing a wooden cottage from Londsale Street to the Botanic Gardens (Thomas Dakin, £23), repairs to the Bailiff's cottage and to the conservatory (W. Hill, £9.14.0), changing the site of a cottage in the Botanic Gardens (Thomas Dakin, £13.18.0), and erecting a stable for deer (Thomas Grady, £53.6.0) (Unit 1, VPRS 959; Unit 8, VPRS 69, PROV).
