I have the honor to acquaint you that at a General Meeting of the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land, held on 11th instant, you were duly elected an Honorary Corresponding Member of the Society. The Council desire me to express to you the thanks of the Society for the contributions already received from you and to say that any additional communications from you to be read before the Society and for the purpose of being printed will be gratefully acknowledged

The name of the Society was changed to Royal Society of Tasmania in 1855. It would appear that the Society had not yet obtained a supply of new letterhead paper.
