To Isaac Featherston1    10 March 1859

Melbourne bot. & zoologic Garden,

10. March 1859.

Dear and honorable Sir

I have with much gratitude to acknowledge the receipt of a second box with seedling plants, which you had the great kindness of sending as a donation to this establishment.

I have sent a Wardian Case filled with well established plants pr. "Boomerang" in return, containing a number of ornamental shrubs (hardy in N.Z) The freight has been defrayed.

By the Boomerangs next going, I shall do myself the pleasure of forwarding to you some recently publish scientific pamphlets

Regarding your very kind promise of helping us, to develope the knowledge of the Chatham Island Flora, I would take the liberty to suggest, that dried specimens would be the best sources to rely on, for living plants uncertain of success in cultivation & tardily flowering, altho' highly acceptable for gardens, are but limited material for the purpose.

With gratitude for your great kindness to this establishment & my sincere regard

Your very humble

Ferd. Mueller.

The honorable Dr Featherstone
