[With reference to expending the sum of £500 voted for purchase of animals for Zoological Gardens]1
This letter was referred to Treasury on 16 June 1859 annotated: 'Any objection to place sum at Dr Mueller's disposal for purpose indicated'. The letter was referred to M on 15 July annotated: 'Money not legally available.'
Reference to the specific sum referred to by M has not been found in Parliamentary votes. It appears that M did not have authority to expend the animal vote, unless requested to do so by the Committee of the Zoological Garden; see Gillbank (1996), p. 89.
Letter not found; item is a register entry only, dated 15 June 1859.
