Councillor Hale and the Surveyor called on M at the Botanic Garden where M 'kindly offered to let them have as many blue gums as they considered necessary and recommended them to be planted as soon as possible' (minutes of Council meeting, 6 July 1859; Minute books, VPRS 12110 St Kilda City Council records, Public Record Office, Victoria).
