The sum of £6,000 was put on the estimates for 1860: M's salary, £600; Assistant, £300; Curator, £300; wages of gardeners, laborers, collectors etc., £4,800. An additional sum of £1,740 was later put on the estimates for departmental contingencies at the Botanic and Zoological Gardens.
