From Ferdinand von Mueller to the Sewers and Water Supply Commissioners   [Aug 1859]1

[A letter was read from Dr. Mueller, the Government Botanist, requesting the donation of a portion of watercress seed lately imported from England, through the agency of Mr. Commissioner Powlett, from Mr. Harrison, nurseryman to the Queen, in order to its being sown in the Botanic Gardens. The Commissioners directed that 1 lb. of the seed should be forwarded to Mueller,2 and requested that he would recommend a person to superintend the sowing of the seed at the Yan Yean reservoir.3]

Letter not found. The text given here is from a report of the meeting of the Commissioners for Sewers and Water Supply held on 1 September 1859 (Argus, 2 September 1859, p. 4).

Not all the seed was planted in the gardens; M advertised seed for distribution, B59.09.04.

M recommended John Clayton (Age, 10 September 1859, p. 5); M's letter of recommendation not found.
