Sir,

You will find enclosed a cheque for £10 that is my mete towards the Exploration fund. I wish I could have conveniently given you more as I am fully sensible that the object is of incalculable importance to the Colony but I cannot afford more at present — I can assure you that I fully appreciate your efforts which will I trust procure the necessary funds to enable you to receive the generous offer of £1000 that has been made conditionally and that you may be able to accomplish an object that is indeed of great national importance —
