To William Hooker   12 October 1859

Melbourne bot. &

zoolog. Garden

12. Oct 1859

My dear Sir William

The honourable David Moore Esq has kindfully taken charge of a small box, containing pamphlets, wood of Morinda Leichhardtia & of Flindersia maculosa, a portion of Australian seeds & some unprepared native algae, which all, I trust, will be acceptable for Kew Garden, Library & Museum.1

You will from letters of former years recollect, that my honourable friend was H. Majestys Minister for public lands & works in this colony, when I returned from Gregory’s expedition and that I am indebted to this enlightened Gentleman for my patent of appointment to these gardens.2

You will confer a favor on me, by giving my former chief the amplest opportunity of inspecting your noble establishment.

The beautiful Goodenia Macmillani, brought January last by me from Gipps land is now unfolding its flowers in this garden, & will probably produce seeds, whereby I shall be enable to add a very ornamental & curious pot-plant to the Kew Conservatories.

Most regardfully I remain

my dear & venerable Sir William,

your faithful& humble

Ferd. Mueller
