From Ferdinand von Mueller to James Service   12 Nov 1859

[Opinion as to the supposed Cedar Forests within 70 miles of Melbourne.]1

In the early period of European settlement in Victoria, there was a report, treated with some scepticism at the time, of a cedar forest being found 'between Port Fairy and Geelong' ('The supposed Cedar forest', Geelong advertiser, 8 February 1844, p. 2). No references have been found to it in the Victorian press in the 1850s.

Letter not found; item is a register entry only, dated 12 November 1859.
