Melbourne bot. & zool. Garden

5. Nov. 1860

Sir

I have the honor of submitting for your favorable consideration the byefollowing communication from Ch. Ledger Esq of Arthursleigh, New South Wales.1

I have the honor to be,

Sir,

your most obedient servant

Ferd. Mueller.

The honorable

the Chief Secretary2

Enclosure not found.

On 27 June 1863 the Under Secretary, W. Odgers noted that M's letter had been: 'Recd from Mr Moore on Mr O'S retirement'. The 'Mr Moore' was presumably the former Under Secretary, J. Moore; 'Mr O'S' is J. O'Shanassy, who had resigned as Chief Secretary on 27 June 1863, after having three discrete terms as Chief Secretary.

The file cover says Ledger's letter was 'containing a proposition for the introduction of an addl number of Alpacas'. See also M to W. Nicholson, 3 November 1860, and the report enclosed with this, C. Ledger to M, 1 November 1860 (in this edition as 60-11-01a).
