Melbourne bot. & zool Garden,
10 Jan. 1861.
My dear Sir Redmond
Being engaged in putting the extensive botanical Collections for public inspection into order for my museum, a desire has arisen with me, to form a separate herbarium of Victorian plants, in order that Visitors & students may have an easier view over the plants indigenous to this country.
As it seems, that after all your noble library is not the best receptacle for such collections & as it would in my multifarious engagements safe1 me much labour in forming such a collection, I beg leave to ask you, whether there could be any abjection2 of having the herbarium conveyed from the Library to the Museum of this establishment?3
By allowing such an arrangement to take place, you, my worthy Sir Redmond,
you would greatly oblige
your very attached
Ferd. Mueller.
His Honor
Sir Redm. Barry
