Letter not found. On 25 February 1861, W. Clarke, Honorary Secretary of the Victorian Horticultural Society, wrote to Heales asking for an interview in order to obtain permission to hold an exhibition in the Botanical Garden. The letter was forwarded to M on 5 March with Heales's minute, the content of which is not revealed. M was away at this time, on an expedition into the Victorian Alps, and did not return to Melbourne until 23 March.
