From Edmund FitzGibbon to Ferdinand von Mueller   31 May 1861

Town Hall, Melbourne

31st May 1861

My dear Sir

I will bring [both] the matters to which your note of yesterday refers1 under the notice of the proper Committees and will apprise you of the result as soon as possible.

In the matter of of the tree guards especially I should have expected but little difficulty only that we are just at present miserably crippled in respect to pecuniary resources2

Yours very faithfully

E. G. FitzGibbon

Town Clerk

Dr. F. Mueller

M to E. FitzGibbon, 30 May 1861.

M's letter was read at a meeting of the Melbourne City Council Public Works Committee on 4 June 1861. The Town Clerk was instructed to reply 'that such labor cannot be supplied by the council' (Unit 4, p. 247, VPRS 4037, Public Record Office, Victoria).
