MS file annotation: 'Some portion of the amount is already expended; for instance 60£ for male dromedary to Mr Landells. other claims are constantly coming in (for instance for Lincolnshire, changes in circumstances, English fish &c) for which purposes this fund is supposed to be distinctly intended; & the only Government grant available for the purpose'.

The minute refers to the item 'Food and forage …', i.e., for the animals housed at the Botanic Gardens in connection with the activities of the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria. 'Lincolnshire' is the vessel that transported the fish and birds listed in M to P. Ramel, 25 July 1861 (in this edition as 61-07-25b); see report in Argus, 27 July 1861, p. 4, col. g. Lincolnshire was cleared out of Melbourne on 22 July 1861 ('Shipping intelligence', Argus, 23 July 1861).
