My dear Müller

Many thanks for the book list.

I quite agree with yr. suggestion and will reserve £25 for payment to Mr. Oldfield1 for collections in Insects small mammals and Land & freshwater Shells particularly or birds for the Nat. Mus.2 for wh. (as well as our set as you mention of his plant series) the Museum will be responsible if you wd. have the kindness to communicate the order.

Very &c

Dr. F. Mueller

M had proposed that Augustus Oldfield accompany the Burke and Wills relief expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria as botanical collector; see M to R. Heales, 18 July 1861. In the event, Oldfield did not go, his place being taken by Diedrich Henne. The expedition had departed, however, on 4 August, so McCoy would have known that Oldfield had not gone with it. He and M must therefore have been planning some other collecting expedition for Oldfield.
