Geehrter Herr Doctor.

Schon vor mehrere Monaten im Besitz Ihrer Aufforderung zur Unterstützung des Heuglinschen Unternehmens, hoffe ich, dass es auch jetzt noch nicht zu spät ist unsern kleinen Beitrag zu der grossen nationalen Sache zu fügen.

Ich habe heute an Herr Brahe eine Bankanweisung geschickt, aus deren Betrag £1.19, für die Heuglinsubscription bestimmt sind, als Ertrag einer Sammlung in dem hiesigen Verein.

Die augenblicklichen schlechten Zeitverhältnisse haben wohl unsre Sammlung geschmälert, doch da es mehr den Zweck hat unsere Sympathie zu bethätigen, als grosse Geldmittel zu liefern, so hoffe ich, dass auch unsre kleine Sammlung ihren Zweck erreicht.

Schliesslich bin ich Ihnen noch zum besten Dank verpflichtet für Ihre gefällige Antwort in jener Bitte, die Sie zu meinen Gunsten entschieden.

Esteemed Doctor,

I have had your request for support for the Heuglin expedition for several months already and hope, that it is not yet too late to add our small contribution towards this great national concern.

I have today sent a bank-draft to Mr Brahe, of which the amount of £1/19.0 is meant for the Heuglin subscription, as the result of a collection in our local [German] club.

The bad conditions at the present time have probably reduced our collection, but as the purpose is more one of engaging our sympathy rather than contributing large sums of money, I hope that our small collection, too, has fulfilled this purpose.

Finally I still owe you my best thanks for your kind reply concerning that request that you decided in my favour.²
