[Mr Ramel, in announcing that our two honorary members Messrs. Wilson and Mueller have just been appointed president and vice-president of the Acclimatisation Society of Melbourne,1 informs the Society of Mr. Mueller's efforts to feed the Phascolarctos with dry Eucalyptus leaves to allow him to send this precious animal.2 M. Mueller also gives all his efforts to finding a way to enable him to send us living Ornithorhynchus.]

At a meeting on 7 August to adopt formal rules to govern the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria, it was agreed that the Council should appoint the various officers within one month (Argus , 8 August 1861, p. 5).
In 1864 M again tried to find a diet to keep Koalas alive during shipment to Europe; see M to R. Owen, 25 September 1864.
Letter not found. The text given here is from Bulletin de la Société Impériale Zoologique d'Acclimatation, vol. 8, (1861), p. 611. It is dated to October as the last likely date that a letter could have been sent that would allow Ramel to report it to the meeting of the Society held on 6 December.
