From Ferdinand von Mueller to Thomas Raingill   15 May 1862

Melbourne bot. Garden

15/5/62

Sir

I beg to recommend to the Committee of the Warnambool botanic Garden, that the Gardener of the establishment may be allowed to visit the bot Garden of Melbourne, by which means such plants, as are available for distribution might be selected by him.1

I have the honor to be

Sir

your obedient servant

Ferd. Mueller.

The Townclerk of Warnambool

M's letter is evidently in response to the Council's request for a catalogue of available plants (T. Raingill to M, 12 May 1862). The Council agreed unanimously to send their gardener, C. Scoborio, to the Melbourne Botanic Garden to select plants etc. for the local garden (Minute book 5, p. 51; Warrnambool examiner, 30 May 1862, p. 2).

T. Raingill to M, 2 June 1862 (in this edition as 62-06-02b) is the letter to be presented by Scoborio to M when he went to select plants.

MS black-edged; M's sister Bertha died on 7 September 1861.
