Melbourne, botanic Garden,
6. June 62.
Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter, dated 6. June,1 and beg in reply to inform you, that I estimate the cost of trenching the ground to the width of 12' within the periphery of the Observatory-site at £15.- .- (fifteen pounds Sterling).
I shall feel much pleasure to arrange for the performance of the work, whenever I receive your authority
Having learnt in an accidental interview with George Verdon Esq., that also some higher trees will be desirable around the observatory as a more certain barrier against the dust, I have set aside a sufficient number of the umbrageous and rapid-growing W. Australian Eucalyptus calophylla and of eligible elegant pines for the purpose.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your very obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller
Eucalyptus calophylla
